In January 2025, with President Trump’s return to the White House, the United States swiftly launched a series of highly influential policies - ranging from trade sanctions and diplomatic withdrawals to shifts in climate and social issues—that not only transformed the domestic political landscape but also profoundly impacted the global economic, trade, and geopolitical order. This issue of ASEAN Outlook presents a special feature on “Trump 2.0,” focusing in particular on the first hundred days of the Trump 2.0 administration. We analyze the driving forces behind these policies and their effects on major global regions, including ASEAN, Taiwan, and the European Union. Through contributions from our research team and expert authors, we examine the risks and opportunities amid these changes, offering forward-looking observations and strategies to help readers grasp the dynamics of Trump’s policies, regional developments, and global trends.
This special feature includes five articles, each providing in-depth perspectives on: the executive orders and actions signed after Trump’s inauguration, the challenges in Taiwan-U.S. relations, and the impacts on Southeast Asia, the European Union, and Pacific nations. These articles aim to offer readers a comprehensive overview and diverse regional viewpoints.
