International Conference on “Towards ASEAN Economic Community: Investment Liberalization, Protection, and Emerging Trends”
The forthcoming ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015 is envisioned to accelerate more connected and expansive regional economic integration in Southeast Asia. One of the AEC’s objectives is to create a single market and production base in the region with free movement of goods, services, investment, skilled labour, and freer flow of capital. The ASEAN Comprehensive Investment Agreement (ACIA), which took effect on 29 March 2012, covers investment liberalisation, protection, promotion and facilitation, and aims to create a liberal, facilitative, transparent and competitive investment environment in ASEAN. Taiwanese investors, historically important investors in ASEAN, should take advantage of the opportunities and re-shape their business strategies into the emerging integrated market.
The Taiwan ASEAN Studies Center (TASC) at the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research (CIER) is honored to launch an international conference on “Towards ASEAN Economic Community: Investment Liberalization, Protection, and the Emerging Trends”. The conference will take place on October 29, 2014 at the S.C. Tsiang Memorial Hall in CIER, Taipei, Taiwan. Four individual but highly related sessions are planned in the conference. The first session will discuss the investment liberalization and recent FDI trends within ASEAN, highlighting the growing significance of the ASEAN market for foreign investors. The second session will focus on the investment protection and dispute settlement mechanisms in ASEAN countries, an emerging issue that has received increasing attention in recent years. The third session will discuss the emerging trends and new issues in the investment environment in ASEAN and changing entry strategies in investing the region. Last by not least, the fourth session will provide the participants with the corporate experiences in investing in ASEAN. Scholars, experts and business leaders from ASEAN countries and institutes will be invited to share their observations and strategies in the sessions and interact with the audience.
